For something really inexpensive and effective, you can get travel alarms made for travelers who stay in hotel rooms. They have a prong that goes in the door opening as you shut it. It makes one heck of a noise if disturbed! It also has a pull chain that you can carry with you to sound alarm if you think someone is getting too close to you. It is actually a very useful tool since it works both ways.

Sorry for your unpleasant experience, it can take a while to get over the heebie jeebies from something like that.

I would go for the dog idea, companionship and security in one!

Sturdy locks, good window latches, a can of pepper spray and some confidence building self defense courses!

for starters....make sure that you actually like what you are doing. if not, then, tough call.

i suppose if you get totally knackered and your brain becomes totally sore with doing a heap of homework, take a breather, give yourself a time to rest, then try again. itd be nice to have study buddies around with whom you can work with. and i suppose everyone who's studying undergoes the same experience with homeworks, apparently some people just try harder and not give up, and end up finishing their tasks! i suppose looking at the end result would help as well. i am doing a degree in nursing and for sure it is hard as, my social life's actually a wee bit ruined because after doing clinical duty for four days, i still have to study for the rest of the week. i do get totally banjaxed and all that, but in the end, it's all worth it, init? well, that helps me to keep on trying when im on the brink of giving up. i actually visualise myself working in the hospital. i dunno what you do but perhaps you can do that as well!

Stay away from the nation-wide large security companies. You'll have a much better service relationship with a smaller local company. Large companies just want your monitoring dollar, they couldn't care less about your security needs or service. With a small company, you'll end up having to buy your equipment, and entering into a yearly monitoring contract. Be sure and test your system at least once a month, or as suggested by your installer.

To purchase a home security system is better considering that it becomes your own rather than leasing which puts yourself as a naked owner. The bad part of leasing is to make you a payor for property without owning it unlike in purchase.

Where are you from? I could see if one of our representatives is in your area. We provide a keypad, as well a a key chain remote. The system also includes 3 contacts for doors and windows as well as a motion detector. We also have our own installers. All you would pay up front is the $34.99 monthly monitoring fee. The representative may also charge a $99 activation fee, but this can be waved with a decent credit score. Let me know and email if you have any other questions! Thanks!

I don't have the answer to your security system but please be careful for a very long time. If someone wants to get even, they can catch up to you anywhere. Not to scare you, but please always look around. Even if you haven't been mugged, that can get scarey. Good luck. . .

If you do the numbers for both, probably real close. I leased for three years and then the equipment was mine.
