Is there a home security system that uses broadband rather than VOIP?

We currently have Brink’s security system and pay Comcast for a VOIP line for the security system to use. We don’t use that line for anything else and I feel that it is a waste of money. Is there any types of home security system that works through broadband or wi-fi? Thanks.

Home security systems usually work by phone, but the phone line isn’t secure (it’s too easy to cut), so they use VoIP. You’re right, though - they should come into the 21st century and use plain TCP on the internet line. (Maybe you can convince them to hire me to write the software and develop the hardware they need?)

Two opitions: Radio or IP Address.
A radio unit is just that, a system that send the signals through radio waves. Its normally installed as a back-up for phone line systems should someone cut the phone lines signals would still be received but we have many customers that uses a radio only. Its called an “AES Radio”.
Or, there is a new system out that is basically through the internet. Its called a “GSM”. Also typically used as a back-up but can be used for either. I believe the GSM’s are made by DSC. You can check out the site for more information.
